Monica has recently completed her PhD in Journalism at the University of Sheffield under the supervision of Prof. Ralph Negrine and is eagerly awaiting to graduate.

Her thesis examined manifestations of political clientelism in the Mexican media-state relations in two historical periods. Her research interests are in the area of political communication, journalist-source relationships, political clientelism and the use of historiography for the study of journalism.

Monica completed her M.A. in Politics and the Mass Media at the University of Liverpool in 2002 and went on to work as the Administrative Coordinator of the Graduate School of Public Administration and Public Politics in the Mexico City Campus of the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.

She is currently Postgraduate Events Manager at the University of Leicester. In her role she devises and organises events that aim to develop transferable skills for postgraduate researchers.

She has a cat and spends weekends with her husband tending their allotment.
