Claire Chen

Claire holds a BA in English Literature from the Fu-Jen University in Taiwan and an MA in Journalism Studies from the University of Sheffield. She also took a summer school research in American Foreign Policy at Harvard University. Claire is currently a TV news presenter on Taiwan´s Formosa TV station and is conducting her PhD research through the University of Sheffield´s Remote Location scheme.

Under the supervision of Dr Jackie Harrison, her research is examining Formosa TV's language policy. The station´s adaptation of Taiwanese language as the priority to present news has become a milestone in Taiwan's media history because Taiwanese language has never been used as a significant language in the prime time news bulletin in Taiwan until FTV has launched in 1997. As a leading presenter, producer and reporter for Formosa TV, Claire has earned her several prestigious awards

Her other research interests include Media and Language, TV News Effects, Internet Journalism as well as the development and application of Satellite TV. Claire is currently the President of Taiwanese Language Society of Formosa TV
