Doctoral Research: Training Guidelines
This document has been produced by the Research Committee of the Department of Journalism Studies and is intended to help graduate students reading for a higher degree by research and their supervisors.
It should be read in conjunction with the Code of Practice and Guidebook for Research Students and Supervisors issued by the Graduate Research Office.
Research students are also referred to the booklet, Welcome to Sheffield: Your Guide to Registration, which provides details of the central support and facilities available across the University. Students and supervisors should also consult the Research Training Programme booklet. The Graduate Research Office also provides information and advice about a whole range of services and support for research students.
The Research Training Programme
The guidelines outlined in this document reflect University-wide guidance, but go beyond them to indicate more detailed procedures that are specific to the Department of Journalism Studies. These cover issues such as registration, research training and supervision.
Research students and supervisors are advised to consult the Graduate Research Office Guidebook for Research Students and Supervisors in relation to Thesis Preparation, Submission and Examination and other issues concerned with Health and Safety, the Learned Societies Fund and Intellectual Property Rights. Students should also familiarise themselves with ethical issues pertaining to research.
