Guidance on using the large format scanner

The department has a large format scanner that can scan up to A0 size and materials up to 20mm thick. This is a free service to all landscape students. The large format scanner is located in the print room on the top floor of the green turret and is supervised by Paul Buck.

Instructions on how to use

Please do not feed any sheets through that have staples, paperclips or anything else that may scratch the glass surface of the scanner
  1. Have your sheet ready to feed into the scanner by placing it face down, portrait orientated and line the sheet up with the arrow marker shown below. Then feed your sheet into the scanner until it grabs it. If you are scanning tracing paper, put a white sheet of paper behind it.

Scan line

  1. Login to the computer to the right of the scanner and double-click the Smartworks Pro icon at the top left of the screen.
  2. Choose the paper size of your scan and desired resolution (default resolution is 400dpi) from the left hand side bar of the Scanworks software.

  1. Press the green button to begin scanning your sheet. The Scanworks software saves your images automatically to a folder on the desktop called scans. Your scans are now ready to be transferred from this folder to your memory stick or a CD.
