SOFTWARE
All of the software that you need for our courses are available to all students on university computers. Below is a list of software that we use and how to obtain a personal copy for your own laptop or desktop PC.
Microsoft Office Sheffield University students can buy a copy of Microsoft Office (includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint) on Mac or PC from Viglen at a discounted price of around £45.
Prezzi This is great for creating presentations. http://prezi.com/index/ The upgrade is free for students: http://tinyurl.com/ylm4km7
AutoCAD is free for students if you register at the Autodesk Education Community website. All other Autodesk products are free to students from this site including 3D Studio Max. AutoCAD is available for Mac and PC.
Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign) is available to students at a discounted price from thePugh education online store on Mac and PC. Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign are also available to buy individually.
An alternative to Photoshop is Gimp. It's free to download and great for basic photo editing.
ArcGIS is available to all students for £2 from CiCS, see the CiCS website for mor. ArcGIS isn't currently available for Mac but the PC version can be used if you set up a Windows partition using Boot Camp for OS X, more info here.
SPSS is available on Mac and PC to all students for £2 from the CiCS. For more information see the CiCS website.
Google Sketchup is free to download at http://sketchup.google.com/.
Google Sketchup Pro is available at a student rate of around £40 from the Pugh education online store.
Google Earth is also free to download here: http://earth.google.co.uk/.

http://tv.adobe.com/ has loads of great video tutorials for all Adobe software.
http://kuler.adobe.com/ is a brilliant site for creating colour themes for your design projects. Create themes from a colour or generate themes by uploading an image. Signup required.
http://cben.net/ is a great resource for downloading and sharing AutoCAD blocks.
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ The Google 3D Warehouse is a free repository where you can find, share, store, and collaborate on 3D models for Sketchup.
