About the Programme
This distinctive programme allows you to examine the details of a realistic international business to business sale between a UK based legal firm and an international partner. Both the academic study of the commercial law underpinning such contracts together with the practical legal skills required in international business transactions are covered in depth. In doing so this programme allows you to evaluate how practice deals with some of the academic themes and issues covered in the programme.
From the outset, English law is used as the basis for the transaction, reflecting the real-life preference of legal entities engaged in international trade. The course covers common agreements and conditions used in commercial practice as well as issues such as exclusion clauses and analysis of key risks in high value transactions where bespoke rather than standard goods are supplied.
This School of Law is unique in England for its strength and proficiency in legal practice. Many of our staff are solicitors as well as being skilled university teachers and many have had years of experience in legal firms. These staff will be teaching this programme. The School also has a highly developed research expertise in commercial law studies and as a student on this new programme you would benefit from our research, our seminars and our external associates.
This course is not a qualifying law degree, and, even though it contains many elements of practice, nor is it a substitute for the Legal Practice Course. It will, however, be of interest and value to law graduates wishing to specialise at Masters level in international commercial law – so if this is the way you want your career to go, this may well be an opportunity to strengthen and develop your knowledge, skills and prospects.
