Commercialization of Research in the Biosciences

This theme examines the way in which intellectual property rights and patents on genomic innovations and biological substances act as an incentive or disincentive to knowledge transfer and the provision of health services. Research in this theme includes leading international and EU funded projects and publications which consider the ethical and socio-economic issues arising from the legal protection of IP rights over new biotechnologies in plant genetics and stem cell science in both developed and developing countries (Kuppuswamy, Llewelyn, Plomer)
