Global Governance of Research
"Governance of research" concerns the manner in which decisions are made, whose interests are taken into account and how decision makers are held accountable. This theme includes leading theoretical and comparative research on the legal competence and reach of EU and international organizations to regulate the use of new biotechnologies and the biosciences.
Current research centres on the role and impact of international economic institutions such as the WTO and World Bank on biodiversity regimes and global health disparities; the role of national & international ethics and human rights committees in the regulation of the biosciences & biomedical research and the phenomenon of 'new governance' in the EU, in particular as an alternative or supplement to 'command and control' means of regulation in social fields.
The member of SIBLE that are working on the theme are Duncan French, Chamu Kuppuswammy, Dimitrios Kyritsis, Lindsay Stirton, and Amanda Warren-Jones.
