Academic Profile
I studied Law at the University of Manchester, graduating with an LLB (Hons.) in 2006, following which I undertook a Masters in International Criminology at the University of Sheffield, which I completed in 2007. In 2012 I completed my PhD looking at the adult male prison experience from a gendered perspective, funded by the University of Sheffield. I am employed for two years as a Postdoctoral Research Associate, supporting the research of the Head of School, Professor Joanna Shapland.
I have presented at numerous national and international conferences in the areas of criminology, masculinities and cultural studies, and am an active researcher in a number of areas. I am involved in a research project working with Dr Maggie Wykes looking at the prosecution of sexual violence in England and Wales and South Africa (http://www.justiceandviolence.org), I am co-founder of the Prison Ethnography Network (http://prisonethnography.group.shef.ac.uk/), and I am involved with the Howard League for Penal Reform funded project on ‘What is Justice’, working with Professor Stephen Farrall (http://www.howardleague.org/what-is-justice-background/).

Teaching and Learning
I am a firm believer in research-led teaching practices providing much greater depth and interest to classes and try to use a wide variety of teaching methods and resources to encourage student confidence, engagement and participation. In turn, my teaching informs my research interests.
