Academic Profile
After qualifying as a solicitor with an east London legal aid firm (Alexander Johnson) I spent four years working mainly in family and criminal litigation in London and Sheffield (Glass, Bagshawe, Miller & Co). Since moving to Sheffield I’ve held posts as a Regional Solicitor for the National Union of Teachers and as a Principal Legal Officer at the former Equal Opportunities Commission (now part of the Equality and Human Rights Commission). I’ve also taught at the University of Manchester.
As well as lecturing at Sheffield University I am a freelance writer on employment and discrimination law. I am an updating author for the equal opportunities and human rights sections of an online human resources journal.
Qualifications
LLB (Hons) 2:1: University of Sheffield
Solicitors Finals: College of Law, Chester
Teaching and Learning
I try to make learning interesting, enjoyable and relevant to life outside the university. If students are truly engaged with a subject, they are more likely to achieve their full potential and to see the law not just as an academic subject but as a practical tool to be used creatively.
The modules I teach are:
| Legal Practice | Undergraduate |
|---|---|
| Business Law and Practice | Law of Contract |
| Employment Law | Equity and Trusts |
| Employment Law | |
| Law of Restitution |
