Economic and social data service (ESDS)

ESDS logoThe Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) is a national data archiving and dissemination service, jointly-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC). ESDS is a collaboration between UK Data Archive and the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex, Manchester Information and Associated Services (MIMAS) and the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research at the University of Manchester.

ESDS provides access to over 5,000 data collections for research and teaching purposes covering a range of key economic and social data, and spanning many disciplines and themes. Specialist services include:

Access to ESDS is freely available via the Internet. In addition, staff and students of the University of Sheffield can download data - this requires further registration and subsequent access via MUSE, the University portal:

This service is available to Internet users including registered students and staff of the University of Sheffield regardless of location and can be accessed directly from this page by connecting to the ESDS web site. Members of the University wishing to download data should follow the above registration process.
