White Rose eTheses Online (WREO)

WREO is an online repository of doctoral theses from the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. It is part of a national - and international - network of open access online databases which promote access to research outputs so that they can be found, read, cited and built upon.

At present the service is at a relatively early stage as compulsory electronic thesis submission has not been in operation for very long. New PhD theses are being added as they become available. Some older theses are being added as a part of building the British Library's Electronic Theses Online Service – EthOS.

University of Sheffield submissions
Students who registered for a research degree from the start of the 2008-09 session onwards are required to submit an electronic copy of their final approved thesis to the WREO. This is in addition to the requirement to submit a final hard copy for the University Library. If you registered before October 2008 submission is optional. Talk to your Faculty Librarian, supervisor or Research and Innovation Services to discuss the benefits.

Uploading itself is easy and there is detailed information on how to do it. It is important to do some work in advance in relation to issues like copyright and embargoes, and there is guidance about those aspects too. The Library provides training and further advice, contact your Faculty Librarian for details.

Access
This service is available to Internet users including registered students and staff of the University of Sheffield regardless of location and can be accessed directly from this page by connecting to the WREO web site.
