Connect to APABI

APABI D-Lib is a collection of Chinese language ebooks covering a wide variety of subject areas, including Chinese business, management, economics, history, literature and politics. The Library has purchased over 165 electronic yearbooks and will be purchasing a range of ebooks in due course.

APABI reader software

Please note: to read an APABI ebook, it is necessary for Library customers to download the APABI reader software to the hard drive of their own computer.
To download the APABI reader software, the Microsoft warning message will have to be overridden – this message displays as the APABI reader software is not registered with Microsoft.

Searching for an ebook
You can search for an APABI ebook by entering your search terms in pinyin into the box provided on the home page. Searchable fields include title, author, publisher, year of publication etc.

Viewing an ebook
You can browse the full text of a APABI ebook for up to 15 minutes without having to borrow the book by clicking on the (View online) link on the ebook summary page. This is the electronic equivalent of taking a book off the Library shelf and looking through it.  If you see a title you wish to read but which is not available at present, please email Gill Goddard our subject specialist for East Asian Studies, to request access.

Checking out an ebook
To borrow an ebook, click on the (Check out) link on the ebook summary page. The book will be available for you to read for a limited period (1 day for yearbooks, 1 week for books).

Printing
Library customers cannot print from APABI ebooks directly. It is possible to copy and paste the content from the ebooks into other software (such as Microsoft Word) and print. APABI ebooks are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) which allows 2000 words to be copied each time. Any printing or copying must be within copyright guidelines. Excessive or systematic printing is not permitted.
