The University Library

Library systems transition period

The University Library is among the leaders in the UK in moving its computer-based management system to a next-generation cloud-based solution. The new system will bring a range of benefits for customers, making our services more robust and efficient, and enabling us to deliver new services.

If you experience any difficulties using our services, please contact the Library HelpDesk by telephone on 0114 222-7200, by email to library@sheffield.ac.uk, or talk to staff at any Library site.

University members should continue to sign in to StarPlus using the usual University computer account username and password. Non-University members should sign in to StarPlus using their Library user number and a new password; details of the new password have been sent out by email, but can also be obtained from Library sites.

The number of items that you may borrow at any time has changed. The new limits are:

  • 35 for University staff and research students and NHS staff
  • 25 for all taught course students
  • 5 for external customers

We now provide streamlined access to print and digital collections through "get it" (for print) and "view it" (for digital) functions on StarPlus. The Find it @Sheffield A-Z list of electronic journals is now fully integrated into this service. An additional new feature in StarPlus allows you to create custom alerts, through the save query and save and alert option. This will automatically alert you by email when new stock is added.

University members are now able to use their UCard PIN at Library self service machines. NHS staff and external customers should continue to use their Library PIN, which is issued at registration with the Library.
