Getting started with EndNote Web
EndNote Web is a web-based software for storing and managing references. It also allows you to 'Cite While You Write' with Word, using a variety of styles. EndNote Web is currently available without charge to all members of the University of Sheffield, but you need to register to use it.
Registration
To register either:
- Click Connect to EndNote Web (in the Quick links box on the right) then click ‘Sign Up' for an account
Or:
- Click the 'My EndNote Web' link at the top of a Web of Knowledge page and select 'Register'
Or:
- If you have installed EndNote X3 on your personal computer, you can register for EndNote Web by selecting ‘Preferences’ from the ‘Edit’ menu, then ‘EndNote Web’ and ‘Register online’
Once registered, you can access EndNote Web anytime, anywhere, on or off campus, by logging in to the EndNote Web website with your email address and password.
Collecting references
From the 'Collect' tab, you can search library catalogues by selecting from the drop-down list (Star, the University of Sheffield's Library catalogue is listed as 'U Sheffield'. COPAC is also available). You can also manually enter new references, or import references from online sources in several formats (including the standard RIS and tab-delimited file formats).
Organising references
From the 'Organize' tab, you can create, rename, and delete groups, share groups with other users, or view and manage groups shared with you ('groups' are collections of stored references). You can also find and delete duplicate references.
Formatting bibliographies and citing references
From the 'Format' tab, you can create a bibliography using a selected style. You can also format Rich Text Format documents (.rtf), or download the 'Cite While You Write' plug-in to use with Word. It is also possible to export references to e-mail, save or print.
If you have installed EndNote X3 on your personal computer, you can transfer references between EndNote X3 and EndNote Web. Transfers are initiated through EndNote X3.
