The Open Rose Group
The University of Sheffield Library is a member of the "Open Rose Group: opening up access for disabled users of Academic Libraries in Yorkshire".
The group consists of staff from eight University Libraries in the Yorkshire area: Bradford, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Leeds Metropolitan, Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam and York. It was formed in January 2003 to exchange ideas and discuss policies and procedures in order to move from base-level provision to best practice in the provision of services to disabled library customers.
Courtesy of the SCONUL Award for Staff Development 2003, the original Group produced a training package consisting of a DVD and supporting materials. It is entitled `Disability Awareness Training for Libraries´. The DVD consists of students with different disabilities from different Open Rose Group institutions talking about their experience of using the library and the accompanying training materials include quizzes, group discussions and practical exercises.
