Become an engaging leader
MSc in Leadership
The MSc in Leadership is available as a 1 year full-time programme or a 2-year part-time programme.
This programme focuses on the development of leadership skills within the current international context of the changing nature of work. Aimed at both current and future managers, you will learn how to develop human capital in organisations and become an effective and engaging leader.
You will learn all about theories of leadership as well as exploring cutting-edge research in areas such as positive organisational behaviour and authentic leadership. The course has a practical focus and includes cross-cultural issues of leadership, leading for innovation and the management of conflict – all critical to performance in the contemporary workplace. You will learn how to lead in today’s challenging and uncertain times.
You will acquire a good understanding of how to successfully create and support positive change in co-workers, employees, organisations and markets. You’ll learn how to develop a business vision and strategy, how to motivate both individuals and groups and how to simulate innovation and initiative in organisations. You will study six core modules and can choose a further three in line with your specific interests and ambitions.
The programme has three distinct features:
Focus on skill-building and action-learning: The program is designed to help participants to develop themselves as leaders. Two dedicated modules will focus on building your leadership knowledge and skills through experiential learning, structured self-reflection, team-based exercises and simulations in small group settings. You will refine your skills through applying them in case study and team work as well as through conducting your own independent research project.
Focus on practical relevance: The program features guest speakers and offers site visits to leading companies as well as public and third sector organisations. These are offered in collaboration with IWP’s and the School’s dedicated management consultancy arm, ConsultIWP.
Focus on research-excellence and research-led teaching: The program combines cutting-edge expertise in work psychology on leading people with management know-how on successful strategic leadership of organisations and business units. It is delivered by faculty members at the University Of Sheffield Management School – with faculty from the world renowned Institute of Work Psychology (IWP) in the lead. Faculty work on research topics that are relevant to next generation leaders; they are also regularly sought after by private, public and third sector organisations as advisors on a range of leadership topics.
