Prof Ron Hodges

Ron Hodges is Professor of Public Services Accounting. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Ron is a member of the Management Board of the Public Sector Academy of the University of Sheffield, formerly Co-Director from May 2008 to January 2010. The PSA is a Faculty inter-disciplinary unit to develop knowledge transfer links with public service organisations.

He holds various positions in professional and public service organisations including being a member of the Research Board of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Public Sector Global Forum of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA). He is a trustee and treasurer of the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA). He is a non-executive Director of Gedling Homes, a social housing provider and registered charity. He is a trustee and leader with the 3rd Woodthorpe Scout Group, a registered charity in Nottinghamshire.

He was a member, from 2009 to 2010, of the expert panel for the National Audit Office study of PFI in social housing. He has recently acted as a Special Advisor to the Communities and Local Government Committee of the House of Commons for its inquiry into the audit and inspection of local authorities.

Research Interests

His research interests include the regulation of public services accounting, public sector governance and accountability, accounting for and management of the private finance initiative and other forms of public private partnership and the audit and performance management of local government.

Teaching

His teaching interests are in the areas of financial reporting and public sector accounting. He has a strong commitment to learning and teaching and was Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching in the School from 2006 to 2010. At undergraduate level his teaching ranges from technical financial accounting in year one MGT132 to the research-led public sector module in the final year of the programme MGT349. At postgraduate level he has taught on both MSc and MBA programmes. He leads the International Financial Reporting module MGT6094 on the MSc Finance and Accounting programme and he is an invited speaker on Public Administration at the Universities of Nottingham and Warwick.
