She obtained an MBA in 2000 from the University of Sheffield Management School where she got a distinction for her thesis on Green Advertising. Following this, she started her doctorate at the University of Sheffield Management School looking at Sustainability Claims on FMCGs; Consumers’ perceptions and company practice in the UK and in Greece.
Panayiota completed a successful internship at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Production and Consumption Unit, Division of Technology, Industry and Economics in Paris in 2002. She worked for several years as a marketing consultant in Greece and as a project manager for International Volunteers in the ATHENS 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games. She has taught several modules in marketing at the University of Sheffield Management School, and was part of an ESRC Sustainable Technologies Programme project in 2006 as a Research Fellow.
Panayiota joined the Marketing Division of the Management School as a Lecturer in Marketing in 2012.
AREAS OF INTEREST AND TEACHING
Panayiotas’ research interests include: sustainability marketing, labelling, green identity, green branding of FMCGs, branding in the music industry and qualitative research methods.
She teaches two modules on the MSc Marketing programmes, Contemporary Marketing Practices and Marketing Research (with Dr Lien Monkhouse). Her teaching is informed by her extensive business and research experience. She believes that students are motivated through interactive teaching, during both the lectures and the seminars. She has developed a ‘three-level’ teaching approach which is praised by the students. The three levels are the individual level (the student), the group level (the small groups in each tutorial) and the classroom level. This approach offers many advantages such as higher student engagement through personal in class support and a relaxed environment where every opinion is encouraged and expressed.
PHD SUPERVISION
Panayiota currently co- supervises Claudia Henninger ‘The role of eco-labelling in the textile industry’. She is also interested in supervising students in various areas of sustainability marketing.
