Background
Simon joined the Management School in June 2010 as an ESRC Management and Business Development Fellow following the completion of his PhD in Town and Regional Planning at the University of Sheffield. He holds both BA (honours) and MSc (distinction) degrees in Human Geography from the University of Leicester. His ESRC fellowship is enabling him to pursue an interest in governance and strategy through an interrogation of the non-executive board member succession and recruitment practices of large charities (social housing providers and universities).
Research Interests
Simon’s past research projects have focussed on the study of inter-firm social networks and their impact upon business development within project-based industries including: film and television post-production; film distribution and exhibition; property development and urban regeneration. Spatiality always forms an important element of Simon’s research and he is interested in exploring the ways in which the particular institutional configurations present in any given locality affect the conduct of business. His research interests include:
- Non-profit and corporate governance
- Organisational practices within project-based industries
- Social networks and business development
- Globalisation and the cultural/creative industries
- Urban development and regeneration
- Commercial property development and planning
