ProfileDouglas gained a BSc in Government (1990) from the CNAA; an MSc in Russian Government (1991) from the London School of Economics; a PGCE in 1996; and a PhD in HRM at the University of Sheffield in 2007. He gained CIPD Graduate-ship in 1996; Chartered CIPD Fellowship in 2004; and Higher Education Academy Fellowship in 2007. Douglas is Lecturer in HRM in the HRM/OB division of the Management School, with particular research interests in contemporary HRM topics and International HRM. Current ResearchDouglas’s research focuses on humanistic HRM. He reviews for several international academic HRM journals, and serves on the following journal editorial advisory boards:
Line managers and HRM:Douglas’s research considers the line manager role in enacting HRM initiatives and potential consequences arising for organizations and employees via in-depth qualitative research. Green (environmental) HRM:He is exploring the views of managers when implementing Green HRM practices at the workplace level, and the development and analysis of large scale survey work on the drivers of workplace Green HRM behaviours. Through his teaching style, Douglas aims to ask students to think critically and consider HRM practices within advanced and emerging economies. He encourages reflective thinking through an informal problem-solving approach in seminars and tutorials.
