Current Research Projects
Tim is currently working on the following areas:
- Universities, PSREs and the Knowledge-Based Economy
One strand of his research focuses on the transformation of universities as sites of entrepreneurship over the past thirty years, changing from ivory towers to factories of knowledge business. Increasingly universities, and public sector research establishments, have become increasingly important engines of the knowledge-based economy. Accordingly, Tim’s work in this areas focuses on organisational transformation and public policy affecting change.

His interest in regional economies and regional development is primarily concerned with research on and the evaluation of regional policy. Along with Dr Peter Rodgers from the Management School, he is currently engaged in work focusing on regional and local economic change, examining the development of enterprising and entrepreneurial cultures in particular. The work on resilient economies is also concerned with theorising political and economic change at the sub-national level.

Tim is currently the Primary Investigator of Energy2B, an innovation stimulating initiative that encourages university students to turn energy innovation ideas into reality via new business start-ups in five European countries (UK, PT, PL, SI and BG). The €1.1m project funded by the European Commission programme Intelligent Energy Europe started in May 2009 and is 36 months in duration when the best “eco energy” innovations will be showcased at a European showcase exhibition.
