Powerpoint templates
These templates, which form part of the University's visual identity, can be downloaded for use in any University presentation. They include guidance on putting together a presentation and on using pictures and graphs.
In using the templates please observe these good practice guidelines:
- Do not change the layout, colours or typefaces of the slides, or make any attempt to move or modify the University logo or the words (exception: to create blank slide backgrounds for scientific presentations please see below)
- If you feel that you really must use animation effects, please use them very sparingly and keep to simple ones such as Appear, Dissolve or Fade In, to avoid distracting your audience
- Unless it is utterly unavoidable, do not reduce the size of the type below that shown in the templates. It is almost always better to cut the number of words and/or split the text across two slides
- If you are using photographs, if possible save them at a resolution of 72 dots per inch (dpi) before importing them into your presentation. This will avoid creating an unnecessarily large file that is too big to email and making the slides slow to respond to your clicks.

The templates
For most presentations download the standard template.
For academic scientific presentations – mainly diagrams and graphs – you may prefer to use a white background. For this download the white presentation template.
How to use the white template: In a scientific presentation, apart from the title page you may find you need more space than the standard slide layouts allow. If so, you can easily set up a blank white slide background.
In the View menu, go to the "Slide Master" view, select and delete the logo from the master slide. Then select the page title box and, using the up arrow key on your keyboard, move it up to near the top of the slide. Return to the Normal view.
Slides you add to the presentation will now follow your modified layout.
