Information for MAT Fourth Year Undergraduates
Your fourth year is the most important stage in your time at University. After four years of hard study, you will soon be graduating and leaving the University to begin a new and rewarding career.
During this final year you will undertake a demanding research project and develop a deeper understanding of concepts introduced in the first three years of the course, while also learning about several new areas in your discipline. A key feature of the fourth year is the ability to tailor the course to suit your own particular interests. Prior to registration, you will have the opportunity to choose a number of modules in addition to those that are core, and thus design your own final year.
In most cases your registration for Year Four will have been completed over the summer before the start of the academic year. In a few cases you will need to complete registration with the University on specified dates early in Semester One. Over the summer you may have changed your mind about some of the modules you selected during the pre-registration process or you may have been advised that one or more modules you selected have been withdrawn. In either case it is possible to change your choice of option modules up to three weeks into the start of Semester One.
Please inform us at the earliest opportunity if there are extenuating circumstances, medical or otherwise, that might have a bearing on your performance during the course of your studies, and particularly during examinations.
Please remember, that staff are here to help you. If you are experiencing problems with the course, or there are factors affecting your ability to study, you should not hesitate to seek help. [Student Support and Seeking Help]. Your Project Supervisor or myself should be your first point of contact, but if neither is available, and your problem is urgent, please seek advice at Reception (Room F20).
