Information for MAT Third Year Undergraduates

Dr Martin JacksonIn the third year, your course continues to build on the concepts and techniques that were introduced in Years One and Two.

For BEng students, this year is the most important stage in your time at University, as it is worth ~67% of your final degree result. During this final year, you will undertake a year-long project (worth 30 credits) on a topic of interest to you, giving you the opportunity to use and extend much of the knowledge and skills you have been exposed to during Years One and Two.

For MEng students, Year Three contributes 40% your final result (the same as Year Four). An important module (30 credits) for MEng Materials students is the 5-month industrial placement, which enables you to work as part of a team within a national or international, company.

Please inform us at the earliest opportunity if there are extenuating circumstances, medical or otherwise, that might have a bearing on your performance during the course of your studies, and particularly during examinations.

Please remember, that staff are here to help you. If you are experiencing problems with the course, or there are factors affecting your ability to study, you should not hesitate to seek help. [Student Support and Seeking Help]. Your Project Supervisor should be your first point of contact, but if your Supervisor is not available, and your problem is urgent, please seek advice at Reception (Room F20).

Module choice and registration

Towards the end of Semester 2 MEng students will be invited to attend a meeting with your 4th Year Course Director to discuss and approve any option module choices for the following year.

The Online Module Choice Screen is open from Monday 29 April until Friday 17 May 2013 via the ‘MyServices’ tab in MUSE. Your core modules will be pre-loaded so you only have to add your option choices to a total of 120 credits. Your Department will approve your choices and these will be loaded onto your student record to allow you to register on-line over the summer.
