Graduation Day 2010

On 19 July 2010 we celebrated Graduation Day with our graduates and their families, with a reception in the Department´s Turner Museum of Glass.

To make the day even more special, seven students received awards from Professor Alan Matthews, Head of Department, for academic excellence and outstanding contributions to departmental life:

Rachel Peachey (MEng Materials Science) won the Violet Dimbleby Prize for Chemical Laboratory Work for her performance in Level 3 undergraduate projects in the field of Glass Technology.

Fay Thompson (MEng Biomaterial Science and Tissue Engineering) won the JRI Prize in Bioengineering for final year MEng in Biomaterials Science and Tissue Engineering.

Mark Richardson (MEng Materials Science and Engineering) won the Lewis Chapman Prize for work related to process metallurgy.

Andrew Winder (MEng Materials Science and Engineering) won the Nesthill Medal and Premium for work on Physical Metallurgy.

Hui Zheng (MEng Materials Science and Engineering) won the Frank Holland Memorial Bursary and Prize for examination, report, practical Investigations and also won the Mappin Medal and Premium for greatest distinction shown by a candidate reading for MEng Degree.

Phillipus Putter (BEng Biomaterial Science and Tissue Engineering) won the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Prize for the best performance as an undergraduate during the whole period of the course.

James Wheelwright won the Jessie Elliss Prize for the best performance in a final year project on any metallurgical subject.
