Course Structure and Content
All of these courses are modular. All taught modules on the Masters courses are worth 15 credits each. Both the Masters and Postgraduate Diploma students take 120 credits (8 modules) of taught material. In addition Masters students undertake a research project within one of the Department's world class research groups. The research project, which is primarily assessed by dissertation, is equivalent to 60 credits (4 modules).
The Masters courses extend over one calendar year, whereas the Diploma courses last for 2 semesters and are therefore roughly nine months long.
It is also possible to gain a Postgraduate Certificate by successfully completing 60 credits worth of material (4 modules) (these may be used for credit accumulation purposes).
Entry requirements
Honours degree or equivalent in materials, metallurgy, chemistry or a related engineering or science subject from an approved institution.
Applicants whose first language is not English are required to take a suitable test, e.g. IELTS minimum score of 6.5 (with a minimum of 6 in each component).
