I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2010 after greatly underachieving whilst studying Sports and Materials Science. With few options open to me I attained some useful work experience at a local manufacturing/engineering company close to home, a position with which I held until 2011. Having gained the necessary motivation and direction and wishing to aspire to greater heights I decided that I would embark on an MSc course in order to broaden my career prospects, greatly increase my knowledge of metallurgy and materials and move a step closer to my long term goal of becoming a chartered engineer.
Having researched various institutions and the respective prestige of their materials departments it became clear that the University of Sheffield and specifically the department of Material Science and Engineering was the best place for me to work towards attaining my future goals. The of Material Science and Engineering at Sheffield is nationally and internationally recognised for its teaching and research excellence, courses that are accredited by engineering institutions and its strong working relationships with high value, high technology sectors. The outcome is a postgraduate degree that allows you, like me, to develop into a well-rounded individual who has every opportunity to become a truly valuable asset to any industry or organisation, the wider society, both nationally and globally.
I’ve just completed my MSc in Aerospace Materials at Sheffield and I am embarking on a new exciting career with Siemens Aerospace & Defence, an opportunity that would not have been available to me prior to undertaking this course.
