Chuh Chong joined the Department in January 2009 as Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering. Previously, he was a faculty member in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and later, in the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, from 2001 to 2008. CK received his BSc (Chemical Engineering) from National Central University, Taiwan, in 1994 and his PhD on "Endovascular Stent-graft Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms: An In-Vitro Modelling" from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Liverpool, UK, in 1999.

Research interests

CK´s area of research aims towards the 6R´s, i.e. providing a better Remedy for failing tissues or organs, by Restoring functions through either minimally invasive surgery/surgical Reconstruction or Replacement, Repair and Regeneration.  His ultimate objective is targeted towards predictive and preventive medicines.  He has strong interests in both experimental and modeling studies related to (1) understanding the effects of structural properties of scaffold, mass transport, biochemical cues and mechanical stresses on cell-mass deposition, tissue regeneration and protein secretions (and controlled stem cell differentiation), (2) developing functional cell-seeding device, bioreactors, porous scaffolds and biological matrices with desired architecture and material properties, (3) understanding the pharmacokinetics and design of drug-eluting stents, (4) understanding the mechanistic effects of haemodynamics in the pathogenesis of arterial disease using well-defined and patient-specific vascular and anastomosis geometries, and (5) understanding flow and transport in porous materials.
