Peng Zeng obtained her PhD on ‘Wear mechanisms of alumina hip prostheses’ from University of Sheffield in 2008. Before moving to Sheffield, she received both her BEng and MEng in Materials Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China.
Research interests
Peng Zeng’s research interests centre on the characterisation of microstructure, in particularly sub-surface changes, and wear mechanisms of metal-on-metal and ceramic-on-ceramic hip prostheses. These can be summarised as follows:
- Wear mechanisms of in vitro simulated and in vivo retrieved hip prostheses, such as metal-on-metal and ceramic-on-ceramic hip prostheses.
- Characterisation of sub-surface changes of various materials.
- Development of focused ion beam techniques for site-specific TEM sample preparation.
- Defects in alumina.
- High-resolution TEM.
Current research
Peng is working on biomedical CoCr alloy and alumina. The project investigates the dynamic microstructural changes of biomedical CoCr alloy and alumina after various in vitro testing, as well as retrieved in vivo hip prostheses, to thereby develop next generation hip prostheses.
