 Erasmus Exchanges for Sheffield Students

This page is for students based in Sheffield. Students from elsewhere who would like to come to Sheffield should click here for more information.

If you are a Sheffield student taking the four-year MMath degree then it is possible to spend either one or two semesters of your third year abroad at one of our European partner institutions (provided you have adequate knowledge of the language). This is as part of the ERASMUS Programme. The Erasmus part of the programme covers student exchanges (EuRopean Action Scheme for Mobility of University Students). This exchange scheme only covers study at one of our partner universities in Europe.  There are about 25 partner universities in ten countries.  About forty undergraduates from these universities come to Sheffield each year, and a similar number of Sheffield undergraduates go abroad.

You should note the following restrictions.  Erasmus visits are only possible in the third year of a four year degree programme, so they are not available for students on a three year BSc.  They are only not possible for students on dual degree programmes.  They are strictly limited to the partner institutions listed at the link above; this ensures that details such as tuition fees and additional grants are handled under funded EU programmes.

It is sometimes possible to study abroad in Australia, Canada or the USA, but that is covered by a different scheme; see here.

It is also possible for postgraduates (on MSc or PhD programmes) to participate in the Erasmus programme and visit one of our European partner institutions for a period of between 3 and 9 months with the agreement of their supervisors.
