Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Careers Day 2011

Careers Day StandEach year the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering departments hold a careers day for final year students. This event provides a unique opportunity for students nearing the end of their degree to meet potential employers face-to-face and is the only university careers event entirely dedicated to the mechanical and aerospace engineering communities.

This year’s careers day took place on 10 November 2011, with 15 prestigious companies taking part and over 200 finalists attending. We were particularly pleased to welcome back some of our former students who now work for top engineering firms in the UK and around the world.

All the exhibiting companies were on hand throughout the day to offer expert advice to students, while more than half also gave presentations on career opportunities in their organisations.

Other presenters included Denis Healy from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), who provided invaluable information on gaining chartered engineer status, and Paul Fennell of the University Careers Service.

Our careers competition, which asked students to answer questions on the presentations, was won by Oana Daniela Tiboaca. The prize of £100 was kindly sponsored by Accenture.

Denis Healy, IMechE Business Development Manager, said: "This is an excellent service to offer students, with great engagement from employers and informative presentations."
