Engineering, Medicine and Science Research Day 2010

We are holding an Engineering, Medicine and Science Research Day on Tuesday 23 March 2010 in Firth Hall, Firth Court.

This event will build on the success of the first EMS Research Day on 17 October 2008 – an innovative event which facilitated new interdisciplinary research between colleagues from the Biomedical, Chemical, Physical and Engineering Sciences.

The programme will feature:

  • an introduction from Professor Jon Sayers (Medicine) and Professor Rod Smallwood (Computer Science) on the issues and challenges raised by interdisciplinary collaborations
  • a plenary lecture from Professor Nic Smith, Professor of Computational Physiology at the University of Oxford. Title: Translating the Cardiac Physiome into the clinic
  • feedback from interdisciplinary collaborations formed at the EMS Research Day in 2008
  • presentations from academics in Engineering, Medicine and Science who are seeking to form interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • an extended lunch break for poster viewing and networking.

You can download a full programme from the downloads box on the right of the page.

Call for poster contributions

As well as a programme of oral presentations, there is a two hour lunch break for poster viewing and networking. People are welcome to submit posters which promote the establishment of new interdisciplinary research projects. For instance, you may wish to highlight tools and approaches that you feel would be of use to others (a solution looking for a problem), or to highlight the expertise which you need in order to move your work forward (a problem looking for a solution).

If you would like to submit a poster, please send the title to Melanie Lovatt, m.j.lovatt@sheffield.ac.uk no later than 17 March 2010. All poster contributions will be included.

  • Posters are to fit a board measuring 1.8 metres high by 1.2 metres wide (6 foot by 4 foot)
  • Authors of posters are asked to hang their posters from 9.30am to 9.45am on 23 March in Firth Hall, ready for poster viewing from 12pm.
