PhD Scholarships for Overseas Students: Medical School Research Progression Scholarships
Each year a variety of externally funded and University funded PhD scholarships become available to both Home/EU and international students. Normally, however, the available support covers a stipend, some laboratory costs and the PhD tuition fee at the Home/EU rate, which is considerably less than the international rate, leaving a large funding gap (£12,000), which most of our Masters graduates cannot find.
From 2012, the University of Sheffield's Medical School has made a five-year commitment to fund the overseas element of the fee, each year, for three new graduates from the School's own Masters programmes to progress through the PhD programme. Current or previous-year Masters students will be selected for this extra support on academic merit once they have been chosen for particular PhD positions by their potential PhD supervisors.
