Grant Application and Review Processes

These pages provide staff with guidance on grant application and review processes within the School. Internal grant review was introduced to encourage, and develop the submission of high quality, well planned applications. There are very few applications that do not benefit from being reviewed before submission. Internal peer review is therefore an essential part of the process of grant application in the School.

All competitive grant applications for £10,000 or more are required to undergo internal review. If you wish to have an application for less than £10,000 reviewed you are welcome to do so. New or inexperienced investigators are especially encouraged to submit all funding applications for review.

Exceptions:

Organisation of Internal Grant Review

The School operates two systems of internal grant review, one is Department based, the other is via the School´s Grant Board. However, the process for submitting your proposal for internal review is essentially the same with both systems.

Department Based System:

The majority of applications from established researchers in the School are submitted via this mechanism which is outlined in the flow chart in the download box on the right. Your Departments dedicated e-mail address for internal review submission can be accessed via the left hand navigation bar.

Grant Board:

This Board oversees the Department based systems and is responsible for co-ordinating responses to strategic funding initiatives where often only one application from the School or University is permitted. It also leads on the development of new and early career fellowships, new investigator and personal training award applications. The Grant Board can be contacted on the dedicated e-mail address med-grantboard@sheffield.ac.uk.

Any member of staff is also welcome to approach the Grant Board for a review of their application or advice on grant submission if they wish.
