School Grant Board
Got some good ideas for a research project, but need advice and support on developing them into a robust research programme or proposal? If the answer is yes, then the School Grant Board is here to help.
Key Roles of the Board are to:
- Encourage, and assist with, the submission of high quality, well planned applications.
- Develop an infrastructure that is conducive to securing research income.
- Support and Mentor those new to the process of applying for funding, or returning to it after a break.
- Co-ordinating responses to strategic funding initiatives where often only one application from the School or University is permitted.
The Board comprises the Grant Review Co-ordinators from each of the Departments of the Medical School and is chaired by Professor Tim Skerry, who reports on its activities to the FRIC (Faculty Research and Innovation Committee).
Fellowship Applications
The Grant Board deliver 1 to 1 tailored Fellowship application mentoring for anyone who would like help applying for a Fellowship. This includes anything from application URMS and costing advice to the organisation of a mock interview with an academic panel. Recent sucessful applicants said:
"The mock interviews I had were excellent, and very like the real thing. I'm sure they were key to my success. I think it is vital to have at least one, and to prepare for it as if it were the real thing, then to have extensive feedback, and a repeat nearer the time. This may not be the same for everyone, but it felt right for me."
"Mock Interviews focus the mind and highlights areas that you need to work on. You may have thought through all the questions but not necessarily practised the answers."
