Postgraduate Research Enquiries & Admissions
Enquiries
Enquiries from prospective postgraduate research students can come from the following sources:
- Specific calls
- A direct application to Student, Recruitment & Admissions
- Direct application to the potential supervisor
- Direct to the PGR Administrator or Secretary
Applicants
All applicants must complete the University's PGR Application Form. This can be submitted on paper or online.
When advising prospective students to complete an application form, please stress the importance of selecting the department as "Medical School" and of including your name in the relating box in the supervisor section. This will ensure that the application is directed to Paula Blackwell, the School's PGR Admissions Administrator.
Process
- Applicants send/submit their applications to the Department of Student, Recruitment & Admissions. Each application is logged and prospective students are provided with an application number.
- Student Recruitment & Admissions forward applications onto the School's PGR Admissions Administrator, Paula Blackwell, who is responsible for processing PGR applications in the School.
- Initially, all applications are seen by a Departmental PGR Selector. Selectors are responsible for checking that applicants meet the mimimum requirements for registration for a higher degree and assigning protential supervisors for speculative applications.
- The PGR Admissions Administrator then forwards applications to potential supervisors for their consideration. If applications received are for a specific studentship the Secretary will forward all applications received to the supervisor after the deadline (unless otherwise requested).
- A supervisor who is considering making an offer should contact the applicant to discuss potential projects and, if possible, arrange a formal interview. If they then wish to proceed to make an offer they must then complete the graduate recruitment form.
- The Selector completes the Decision Form (a form to say whether the student is to be made an offer or not) and the PGR Admissions Administrator sends it back to Student Recruitment & Admissions.
- The applicant is then sent a standard offer letter. The School's Admissions Administrator will send the letter to UK students, while Student Recruitment will send out the offer letters to EU and Overseas students. Your student will have to return the reply slip before they can be enrolled at the University.
