Organisations ask for a range of skills and personal qualities which can include: communication skills, commercial awareness, leadership, negotiation skills, teamwork. These activities will allow you to demonstrate your skills in a structured way to future employers.
Personal Finance Module
Making sound financial decisions is an essential life skill. Without it, we are unlikely to be prepared for life's ups and downs, or we may suffer the consequences of poor financial choices. For most of us, managing money is something we just have to pick up as we go along, usually by trial and error. You can give yourself a head start by attending the Personal Finance module.
Learn how to budget effectively and understand much more about the mysteries of the financial world including debt management, mortgages and the tax system. Through workshop activities and case studies you will be able to confidently take more control of your own finances. This module is facilitated by an independent financial adviser.

Skills Development Sessions
Each semester, the Careers Service invites a range of graduate employers to come on campus to run skills sessions for students at Sheffield. These `Skills for Success´ sessions are highly participative (and enjoyable) workshops designed to introduce you to some of the `employability´ skills that recruiters seek in their graduates. Typical sessions may include leadership, negotiation skills, problem-solving etc. Taking part involves working in groups, making presentations, resolving business dilemmas, arguing your case – be sure to come along prepared to join in.
Skills for Success sessions are open to students in all subjects and all years of study. You can attend just one or many - but remember, if you take part in three or more sessions you will gain a Certificate of Attendance. Participation can also count towards the Sheffield Graduate Award.

What's On at the Careers Service
Skills for Work Certificate
The Careers Service `Skills for Work Certificate´ is available to help you demonstrate to future employers that you have what it takes to function in the workplace. You can obtain the certificate by successfully using your part-time work. vacation work or other work experience to demonstrate your skills development.
The certificate is supported at national level by several graduate employers and organisations from across employment sectors.

Career Mentoring Scheme
The Career Mentoring Scheme gives you the opportunity to spend time with a professional who is currently working in a career area that interests you. This mentor will be able to provide you with the benefit of their experience in a particular occupation, giving you an insight into the knowledge and skills you will need to get in and get on in that sector as well as practical tips on activities such as job-hunting, applications and interviews. It´s a great way to gain confidence and start making contacts in a career area that interests you.

PDP (Personal Development Planning)
During your time at university, there will be lots of opportunities for enhancing your employability skills, both within your course and as a result of undertaking, for example, voluntary work, part time or vacation work. Employers greatly value the skills you acquire as a result of these activities and actively encourage continued self development within their organisations. PDP aims to encourage you to plan for, manage and reflect upon your learning and development during your time at university, so you are well prepared and able to present yourself effectively to employers, or for further study.
To help and guide you with this, there is an IT based PDP system, accessible through your MUSE community, which is available to all registered students.
