Beyond the PhD

A training day for research students took place in May 2006, funded by a university Skills Training Development Grant awarded to Stephanie Pitts and Jonathan Stock. Called 'Beyond the PhD', the event aimed to develop awareness of academic career routes, and to give advice on publication, job applications and funding opportunities. The day featured talks and debates led by lecturers from within and beyond the music department, addressing the following topics: 1) Writing for academic journals; 2) Breaking into lecturing; 3) Making a good application for a lectureship; 4) Applying for research fellowships.
