World Music Studies MA - Fees and Costs

Fees

One important advantage of studying World Music by distance learning is that the fees are set at the same level for UK and overseas students alike.

The fees for 2011-12 are £2100 per year; this may increase slightly for 2012 entry. Fees may be paid in two equal instalments each year: at registration in August and then on 1 February.

Other costs

You will be expected to attend two residential courses per year, for which competitively priced accommodation will be available but the cost of this accommodation is not included in the fees.

You should also be aware that you will need access to a number of relevant books during the two years; the course materials provided will not contain sufficient information for you to pass the course. It is possible to rely on libraries if you have a good local source, otherwise many students purchase books through internet book shops at reduced rates.

You will need to own, or have access to, certain basic equipment required for completing the coursework and fieldwork projects. This is includes a computer with music notation software, a sound recording device (preferably digital) and a camera. Many students find that a video camera is also useful for fieldwork.
