Why the MA in Music Management?

Music Management is one of the fastest growing sectors within arts and leisure management, encompassing both the commercial and 'not-for-profit' sectors. The Sheffield Music Management Masters programme provides candidates with the essential knowledge with which to flourish in this environment.

Delivered in conjunction with Sheffield University's Management School, the MA in Music Management programme offers core management theory together with higher-level options and 'live' programmes giving students valuable first-hand experience. The programme concludes with a detailed study of an aspect of Music Management of the student's choice. With an active and extensive music scene, Sheffield is an excellent location for the study of music management.

The MA in Music Management is a subset of the successful MSc Management (Creative and Cultural Industries) programme, run by the University of Sheffield´s Management School.

The performing arts, cultural industries, heritage and visual arts sectors are dynamic areas of development in Britain, fed by increasing leisure time and rising real incomes. They provide a focus for local communities, a valuable educational resource, and a significant contribution to the local and national economy, not least through a wide range of tourist attractions. Tourism is said to be the world´s fastest growing industry and is on a steady, long-term growth path.

Many arts, cultural industries, heritage and music organisations within the public, private and voluntary sectors are facing a number of challenges. In the future they can expect increasing competition for audiences – not only from other cultural institutions but also from a variety of other leisure options. This programme aims to give you the competitive edge required to succeed.

The MA in Music Management is designed to give those wanting to work professionally in this field, competitive advantage, through both a sure grasp of theoretical knowledge and a taste of the practical experience required to succeed.
