Welcome to CAIRM

The Centre for Applied and Interdisciplinary Research in Music is dedicated to fostering the practice and study of music as seen, heard and understood from the widest possible range of perspectives.

Sharing our expertise

Working in conjunction with researchers from the humanities to medicine, engineering and the social sciences, and with the users of research at all levels, we seek to develop and share musical knowledge, experience, practice and creativity, thereby contributing to the improvement of the societies within which we live and work.

Further researchers become affiliated with the Centre on one or more projects. We meet regularly to discuss ideas, review approaches, develop proposals and share results.

A collaborative approach

We place an emphasis on applied work and on collaboration with external agencies and interest groups, including those involved in policy direction, the establishment of social well being and empowerment, and the development of commercial interests.
