Profile

In 1984, I commenced studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire after winning the Evelyn Harrod Entrance Scholarship. My recorder tutor was Alan Davis. Whilst studying, I gained the Conservatoire's highest award, the ABSM diploma in recorder recital and graduated GBSM with distinction. Postgraduate study continued with Ross Winters at the Royal College of Music achieving the ARCM diploma in recorder performance. I won Silver and Bronze medals with Trinity College of Music and the W.S Lloyd Webber Performance Medal with the London College of Music after gaining the FLCM recorder recital diploma.

In 1987, I was a finalist in the Moeck UK solo recorder competition which was held in London. In 1988, I was a finalist in the John Ludlow Philharmonic Concerto Competition performing the Suite in A Minor by G.P Telemann. My work involves tutoring for the Sheffield Music Hub, and I have been promoted to a leadership role in delivering First Access/Progressional Routes to pupils in Sheffield Schools. I am a life member of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Association and a member of the European Recorder Teachers Association (UK).I have given recitals, workshops and masterclasses in the UK and abroad. I have taught recorder for the University of Wolverhampton and am now recorder tutor for the University of Sheffield.

In my role as Conductor, I have been a Musical Director for several Music Theatre groups in South Yorkshire. I have passed the KS2 Continuing Professional Development Course with Trinity Guildhall/Open University. I perform on renaissance, baroque and modern recorders by Hopf, Moeck, Mollenhauer, John Willman, Yamaha and have recently purchased the "Elody" electronic recorder by Nik Tarasov/Mollenhauer and the "Eagle" recorder by Adriana Breukink. I am recorder consultant for the Victoria College of Music, London.
