Applying to study Music at Sheffield
|
|
We have 50 undergraduate places available every year. Of these, roughly 38 are allocated to single honours applicants with the remaining 12 places being spread over 11 dual honours degrees.
We strongly encourage applications from well-qualified students. You should be expecting to obtain a good ABRSM Grade VIII result on your principal instrument and three good A2 passes (or equivalent). Please remember that we also accept ABRSM- equivalent gradings and normally accept all instruments.
If you are taking the Diploma, BTEC, IB, Highers etc. please do tell us. We will be happy to grade your offer accordingly. If you are unable to take Music as an A Level (or equivalent) subject we normally accept the following ABRSM exams: ABRSM VIII Practical Merit / Distinction + ABRSM Theory VIII Merit / Distinction. If you are unsure whether your qualifications meet our requirements please get in touch.
How to apply
All applications must be made through UCAS.
You may be invited to interview or receive an offer through UCAS. If you receive an offer you are strongly encouraged to come to one of our Open Days. Here you will be shown the Music Department and have the opportunity to ask further questions with staff and current students.
For further information, or to request a brochure, please contact Jo Burrows.
InterviewGiven the diverse range of qualifications taken by applicants, and a growing number of applications from mature students, we give you the opportunity to request an interview. The interview gives you a chance to play your instrument, discuss your application with a member of staff and ask questions. Interviews provide an opportunity to go well beyond the details of your UCAS application form in a relaxed, informal environment. Click here for more information, and do not hesitate to contact Jo Burrows or Adrian Moore to request an interview. |
Mature studentsThe Department welcomes applications from mature candidates (over 21 years on entry to the University). You are encouraged to make contact with the department before completing your entry form. You may well be invited for interview and be asked to play two contrasting pieces on your principal instrument. Other criteria used in making offers to mature students are study for A levels or other professional qualifications (ABRSM VIII theory for example).
