Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Study Day
The Sheffield MND Care and Research Centre Staff organised a Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Study day on the 18th April 2013 which was hosted at SITraN. This study day was aimed at medical, health and social care professionals who care for and support people living with MND. Over 65 health care professionals from around Yorkshire and beyond attended the event to further their knowledge on Respiratory symptom management in MND. A number of presentations were given by MND specialists to provide up to date information on MND respiratory care. Workshops were held with equipment (non-invasive ventilators, masks, Cough Assist machines, communication aids and environmental controls) relating to respiratory management in MND with companies supporting the event available to demonstrate devices.
The MND Care and Research team members received positive feedback from a number of different attendees noting that:
‘it was a really excellent and worthwhile day’ in a ‘lovely venue’ which provided ‘increased knowledge to help support patients more effectively’ and ‘will enhance the care I give to this patient group’.
The team plan to develop a training page on the MND Care Centre website and upload all the presentations from the day. This will enable access to this knowledge for those that were unable to attend the day and a place to promote future events.
