SCANLab, the Sheffield Cognition and Neuroimaging Laboratory, was opened in March 2001 by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, Professor Bob Boucher.
In recent years, Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) has been a major focus of research efforts within the University. SCANLab has been set up to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the analysis of fMRI data gathered in the MRI scanner at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
The laboratory boasts several powerful workstations dedicated to 24-hour data analysis, backed up by a central server and full-time IT support.
SCANLab is situated in the Academic Department of Psychiatry and involves a collaborative network spanning the Faculties of Medicine and Science and local NHS trusts.
