Research techniques

We use a wide range of different techniques to investigate the biological basis of psychiatric disorders. These include:

Functional MRI

Functional MRI (fMRI) is a scanning technique which allows us to look at how brain activation changes when a subject performs a specific task, or in response to particular stimulus.

Structural MRI

Structural MRI scanning is used to examine the physical structure of the brain. This allows us to investigate differences in the structure of certain brain regions between populations.

Skin conductance response

SCR is a technique for measuring the levels of autonomic arousal in a subject. We have specially designed SCR measurement equipment which can be used in the MRI scanner.
