New staff induction

As a new member of staff you will need to complete the points on the following check list in order to ensure your first few weeks in the department proceed as smoothly as possible. The information covers items you will need to be aware of during the first few months of your employment.
For staff working in Psychiatry at the Longley Centre your point of contact is Bev Nesbitt rather than Anne Gregory.

On your first day:

  1. Introduction to induction coordinator (Anne Gregory or Bev Nesbitt) to arrange a tour of the department including fire procedure and receive induction pack, keys, swipe card and lab book.
  2. Go to CiCs Computing Centre, Hounsfield Road to get staff ID card.
  3. Go to 10-12 Brunswick Street to provide:

  NOTE: these are only possible once your contract is in place.

In your first week:

  1. Visit the University’s induction web pages:

  2. Learn how to use the myPurchase and myCAtalogue on line ordering systems :
    http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/finance/staff-information/financial_systems/access http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/finance/staff-information/help/procurement/how/catalogue Once you have done these courses Kevin Corke can arrange for you to have a requisitioner’s profile in order for you to do your own on line requisitions.
  3. Attend a CiCs induction session:

  4. Exchange contact details with you line manager and technical/secretarial lead for emergencies and reporting sickness absence.
  5. Complete the University online induction and give Anne Gregory a copy of the print out you receive at the end of the course so that your training records can be updated:

In your first month:

  1. Attend a fire lecture: http://www.shef.ac.uk/firetraining/displayTimetable.do Once you have attended this lecture let Anne Gregory know (a.gregory@sheffield.ac.uk) so that she can update your training records.
  2. If appropriate enrol on an out of hours course with safety services or Carmel Nichols when an email advertising these courses is circulated: http://www.shef.ac.uk/safety/training
  3. Familiarise yourself with the Learning Management System to book University courses such as SRDS information session, how to use myCalendar etc. http://www.shef.ac.uk/hr/development/lms
  4. Learn how to book annual leave using myJob. Any problems see Anne Gregory.

For staff working at SITraN there is a bike rack situated at the Glossop Road entrance where bike users can secure their bikes. The gates are unlocked at 8.00am and are locked by the last person to remove their bike from the enclosure.


Male and female showers are located on the lower ground floor in rooms A06 (male) and A07 (female).
Kitchens are located on ground level in rooms B07 and B08 where there are kettles and microwave ovens for staff and students to use.
