The University Of Sheffield

Being an International student at the University of Sheffield is an awesome experience. For me, being received by University students (Meet and Greet scheme 2006) at Manchester Airport after a 26 hour flight was an amazing beginning for what has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life. As a matter of fact, I really love this city and the Uni because they never allow me to feel homesick but joyful to share my culture with others.

I always say that this is the best place for international students for several reasons. Firstly, the International community is quite united and organised. That is why the international events such as the Intro Fiesta, the Food Festival and the Cultural Evening are really the most popular events in the Uni through out the academic year. Secondly, at least 90% of the world is represented in here. From French to Sri Lankan, from Mexican to Kenyan, Sheffield is a very diverse global village. Moreover, I was happily surprised that there were more students from my country and other parts of Latin America. However, I have meet people from so many different cultures, traditions, religions and nationalities, that nowadays I have a more global way of thinking.

Out of the International community, the British citizens are great. Socially, British students and Sheffield citizens broke that stereotype that I had about the "cold" British personality. As a matter of fact, people always offer you a warm smile, something that I always appreciate. Apart from that, Sheffield is a lovely city to live in because it has everything: if you feel that nature is calling, the Peak District is a natural reserve within a few minutes by car; if you feel like a "party animal", nightlife in the city is one of the best in the country; and if you feel very academic the Information Commons is the place to study. In brief, Sheffield is the place to come.

Additionally, the University of Sheffield is synonymous with high quality education. As a matter of fact, all academic departments are highly ranked nationally and internationally. Apart from that, the teaching quality is top in the UK. Furthermore, the Sheffield Union is the best in the country. Not only because of the massive building that it has but the wide range of activities designed from students for students.

In conclusion, I think that that the University of Sheffield was the right choice for me and I am very proud of being a Sheffield student. I will recommend to every single person to come and study here because it is a great city to live in.
