Travelling to Sheffield by Car
1. From M1
- Leave the motorway at Junction 33.
- Follow the City Centre signs along the dual carriageway A630 (Parkway), which ends in a large roundabout (Park Square).
- From the roundabout, take the A61(S) Chesterfield Road, passing the Railway Station on the left.
- Turn right at second set of traffic lights on to the Inner Ring Road and follow the signs for the University.
- Continue straight on as far as Brook Hill. This is the first exit from the roundabout. This takes you to the Western Bank precinct. A University location map (sent with this mailing) can be referred to from this point.
2. From the West (A57)
- Follow the signs for the City Centre.
- The route continues to Western Bank, with the University being signposted for the last mile.

3. Maps and Landmarks
- A-Z of Sheffield is a useful map or book with alphabetical index of all streets in the City. This can be bought at the Tourist Information Office and in most bookshops and newsagents in Sheffield.
- Landmarks
i. Arts Tower – a large, dark grey tower block (16 storeys) on the central campus, can be seen from some distance.
ii. Royal Hallamshire Hospital – Large 18 storey building.
iii. Tram Lines – one route runs between Hillsborough and City Centre plus between City Centre and Meadowhall and passes by the University. (Other routes may take you away from the University.) - There are many one-way and no-entry streets in the City Centre not marked on maps.
4. Parking
At the weekend, visitors can use car parks on Durham Road (behind the Octagon Centre) or by the Arts Tower. There are also parking meters on Road; you have to pay to use those except on Sundays and after 6.30pm parking in the city centre is very difficult.
